Notice of Annual General Meeting (AGM)

TUESDAY 20TH OF AUGUST, 7.30PM AT THE HALL   -  LIGHT SUPPER TO FOLLOW

The 6 retiring members of the Committee of Management are: Danny Pauley, Donna Bartsch, Betty Kowald, Camille Hunt, Keith Bennett and Phillipa Powell

Order of Business At the Meeting: Confirmation of previous minutes, Chairperson’s Report, Treasurer’s Report, Election of Committee of Management, Appointment of Auditor, New and Continuing Members of the Association.

Hall Association Members and the Community are invited to attend.  If you wish to join, the annual fee is $5.00.

Invitation to share ideas - Master Plan

Everyone is invited to share ideas on the Master Plan for the Hall.  

There will be an Open Session at the Hall on Sunday the 23rd June 2024, between 1-3pm.  Here you can meet and talk with the architects, designers and Committee members.

You can view and download the preliminary master plan here.  We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Fire Wood Raffle - DRAWN

Congratulations to Ash from Mt Torrens - the very happy winner of the Fire Wood Raffle.  

Thankyou to everyone who purchased tickets and/or made a donation.

The funds raised will help us cover operating costs of the Hall - with insurance a cost that is growing each year.

Fire Wood Raffle

Win a trailer load of fire wood - approximately 1.6 tonnes!  All split ready to go with local delivery included.

Tickets are $5 each; with only 500 tickets to be sold.  Drawn upon sale of all tickets.

To purchase, tickets are available at the Mount Torrens Post Office, Mount Torrens Pub or just send us a message with how many tickets you would like to buy and contact details in case you win!

All proceeds go toward maintaining our community owned Soldiers Memorial Hall.

Master Plan to be prepared for the Hall

The Mount Torrens Soldiers Memorial Hall Inc has secured a Community & Recreation Facility Grant from the Adelaide Hills Council to prepare a Master Plan for the Hall.  

This is the first holistic Master Plan for the Hall in its 100 year history, and its purpose is to detail improvements that best support our community, both now and into the future.  

Your input is so important and in the coming months we will formally seek your ideas.  Stay tuned as more information is shared about how you can be involved.

Life Membership - Betty and Kevin Kowald

At our end of year members gathering, Betty and Kevin Kowald were awarded Life Membership.  

Kevin was elected to the Committee of Management in 1964 and has only recently retired.  Both have provided many years of dedicated service; a service that has ensured the Hall remains operational and community owned to this day.

Heating and cooling to be installed in 2024

We have secured funding to install heating and cooling at the Hall!  This funding will make a significant improvement to the comfort of our community space, with reverse cycle units to be installed within the main hall as well as the meeting room.  After 100 years, we think this is well overdue and so pleased to have the support of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal in enabling such works to be completed.

NAB Foundation Community Grant

The Mount Torrens Soldiers Memorial Hall Inc has been granted $10,000 from the NAB Foundation Community Grant program to upgrade exit, interior, and exterior lighting.

This is an important infrastructure upgrade to enable the Hall to provide a safe and comfortable venue for our community.  

Thankyou to the NAB Foundation; we greatly appreciate your support of our 100 year old community hall.

Raffle Ticket Fundraiser

Raffle tickets SOLD OUT IN TWO WEEKS!  Thankyou to everyone for your support.  

The WINNERS ARE: 1st Prize : S. Rasic; 2nd Prize: A. Cotton; 3rd Prize: M. Green; 4th Prize: J. Herrmann; 5th Prize: I. Barry; 6th Prize: A. Kowald; 7th Prize: C. Bolton; and 8th Prize: L. Hunt.  

All proceeds of the raffle will go to maintain and improve our community hall.

The eight prizes include 1st Prize: 2 nights accommodation at The Little Blue House at Port Victoria (valued at $250); 2nd and 3rd Prize: half a dozen bottles of Vella Wines (valued up to $208); 4th and 5th Prize: half a dozen bottles of Vella Wines (valued up to $194); 6th Prize: $75 meat tray from Carnevore; 7th Prize: $50 meal voucher for Mount Torrens Hotel, 8th Prize: a bottle of Commemoration Port from the 100 year celebration of the Hall.

Recovery Ready Halls Grant Funding boost

The Mount Torrens Soldiers' Memorial Hall has been awarded $22,000 to upgrade the power board and install three phase power under the Recovery Ready Halls program.  

This is a great initiative that will enable the hall to now plan and source funding for other much needed electrical works including heating and cooling, lighting upgrades, as well as potential backup power.

All important needs to enable the hall to continue to provide a venue for the community in times of need.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government. This project also received support from Adelaide Hills Council.

EVENT - 100 years commemoration service

Join us at 2pm at the hall for a remembrance service to commemorate 100 years of our Soldiers Memorial Hall.  There will be a historic photo and general history display as well as afternoon tea.  Bottles of commemorative port will also be available for purchase.  We look forward to seeing you there.
